Top three biggest weaknesses about Apple

Apple weaknesses post by batterylaptoppower.com

Apple and CEO Steve Jobs have celebrated a string of huge hits over the past several years, including the iPhone, the iPad and the MacBook Air.

Reviews have been mostly glowing, sales have been strong and investors have cheered, sending the stock up 40% over the past 12 months. Apple, which was struggling a decade ago, is now the world’s most admired and highly valued tech company.

But Apple is not perfect. In fact, the company has several weaknesses to address:

1) The cloud. Apple  has been bragging about how the iPad 2 is a “post-PC” device, but you still need to plug it into a computer to activate and sync it. The easiest way to get photos off your iPhone is to email them to yourself. You still can’t sync your iTunes music over Wi-Fi or 3G. This is a shame.

Apple Dell vostro 1510 battery discount Dell vostro 1700 battery Dell d630 battery needs to think about the cloud the way Google does — as the future of mobile services. You shouldn’t be tied to a USB cord to access files. You shouldn’t need a PC to use a “post-PC” iPad. You shouldn’t have to email a map link from your computer to your iPhone.

Perhaps this is part of Apple’s new version of iOS, due sometime this year. (See our list of suggestions for iOS 5 here.)

The company has a huge new data center in North Carolina and can’t be blind to the fact that other companies — Dropbox, Amazon, Google, etc. — are doing very cool things with the cloud.

But for now, Apple is still weak here — MobileMe and Apple’s iOS push notifications not withstanding.

2) Social. Apple has tried to do “social” a bit with Ping, its social network based around iTunes music, and GameCenter, its social gaming service. They aren’t huge hits. Apple has not been able to go as deep integrating Facebook or other social networks into its products as some Android devices or Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 have.

Some of this could be to reduce Apple’s dependence on other companies, so the iPhone is more reliable. But it seems that Apple and Steve Jobs don’t really get social, and don’t see its value. That could burn them in the long run.

Or perhaps, again, this could be addressed in the next version of iOS. For instance, Apple could go a long way by making the iPhone’s built-in Photos app more social, like the popular Instagram app. And Apple’s marketing boss Phil Schiller is all over Instagram. So it’s not like the company isn’t highly aware of what’s out there.

This isn’t to say that Apple should replicate Facebook, or even try to build its own general-purpose social network. But integrating your existing online social connections could be useful for many of Apple’s products, ranging from the iPhone’s address book to the App Store Acer aspire 5520 battery to photo sharing. So it’s time for Apple to do more here.

3) The living room. The new Apple TV just got a small upgrade, in the form of live video streaming for MLB and NBA games. But it’s still the weakest of Apple’s products, with a relatively limited selection of video. And it’s definitely not something TV companies like Comcast or DirecTV are worried about.

Apple could improve Apple TV with an app store within the next year or so — gaming could be big! — and more video content sooner. But it’s a challenge, because this is a situation where Apple has to decide between being a good platform — and allowing rival companies like Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon to thrive — and being a dominant content seller by keeping an iTunes monopoly.

The good news for Apple is that no one else is really putting up a fight here yet. Google TV isn’t a big success, while Boxee, Roku and TiVo Premiere haven’t caught on with mainstream consumers. So Apple can take its time. Heck, Apple may even come out with an actual television someday.

Also, these are all areas where Apple is relatively in control of its destiny, and can make improvements.

There are some other areas where Apple is vulnerable, such as the threat posed by Google’s Android system, and possible production problems because of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. But that’s a different list.

Battery Future – Building a good battery

Battery Future post by batterylaptoppower.com

“What we are trying to do is put different pieces of a puzzle together,” said Argonne National Laboratory scientist Daniel P. Abraham. The puzzle is a lithium-rich compound material, Li1.2Co0.4Mn0.4O2, that holds key insights into the development of more powerful and robust batteries for electric cars. Using a suite of advanced techniques, including the resources of the U.S.

Department of Energy’s Advanced Photon Source at Argonne, Abraham and his colleagues have pieced together both the long-range and local structure of this compound, devising a model that could explain how such materials operate on the electrochemical level — and how to use them to build a better battery Dell vostro 1310 battery Dell wr050 battery .

Argonne is at the cutting edge of the effort to create advanced battery technologies, focusing especially on the lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery, which promises more energy and longer life than the nickel-metal hydride battery currently used in electric and hybrid vehicles. For instance, the new Chevy Volt, the first mass-produced plug-in hybrid electric car, is powered by a battery whose chemistry is based in part on important breakthroughs developed by scientists at Argonne. Like all batteries, Li-ion batteries work by moving electric charge (in this case, lithium ions) between an anode and cathode.

But vital properties — such as the amount of electricity a battery can deliver before recharging is necessary and how many times it can be recharged before its microstructure breaks down under the repeated cycling stress — can vary greatly depending on the composition of the cathode and anode. Most research has focused on compounds using transition metals such as cobalt and manganese, but the precise structural formulation of the compounds and what might make one work better than another have largely been a matter of trial and error and speculation. The new Argonne work, published in Chemistry of Materials, is an important step toward resolving the confusion.

Co-principal investigator Mahalingam Balasubramanian (also from Argonne), Abraham, and colleagues from Argonne and the Frederick Seitz Materials Research Laboratory of the University of Illinois examined the layered lithium oxide Li1.2Co0.4Mn0.4O2 , which is a model compound for many of the advanced battery materials currently under development for electric vehicles. The experimenters subjected samples to a variety of techniques including x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning-transmission electron microscopy (STEM), and x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS).

Our notebook batteries are made from high quality battery cells, which offer the quality and capacity as their (Original Equipment Manufacturer) counterparts. We guarantee our laptop batteries for full 1 year warranty and 30-day money back on every laptop battery.

The combination of methods yielded a more comprehensive picture than previously achieved. “It’s sort of like the story of the blind men and the elephant,” Abraham explained. “When different people use different techniques, they obtain data that are only one part of the puzzle, but often the results are presented in literature as the final answer. The most important thing that we did was to put together information from the various experimental techniques to obtain a composite picture.”

When examined by XRD, Li1.2Co0.4Mn0.4O2 reveals an average long-range crystal structure similar to that of layered LiCoO2. STEM results, however, revealed the presence of lithium atoms, in sites typically occupied by cobalt and manganese atoms, ordered in a manner similar to that in layered Li2MnO3. But the STEM data could not establish the structural relationship between the ordered lithium atoms and the neighboring cobalt and manganese atoms.

The XAS experiments conducted at the X-ray Science Division 20-BM bending magnet beamline of the Advanced Photon Source, on the other hand, were successful in distinguishing the local atomic environments around the cobalt and manganese. Balasubramanian and his collaborators determined that while the crystalline structure of the Li1.2Co0.4Mn0.4O2 compound is largely homogeneous over the long range, the local structure contains Li2MnO3 and LiCoO2 nanoclusters.

These local clusters might present connectivity over long distances as a dendritic network. “Having continuous regions allows for each unit cell to ‘talk’ to the next unit cell over very long distances,” Balasubramanian said. This connectivity enhances the transport of lithium ions and hence, the electrochemical performance of the material for battery applications. “It’s the local structure that gateway s62044l battery Asus a32-f3 battery determines the properties of the compound,” Abraham added.

The team’s broad-based approach of bringing together a wide palette of experimental methods, rather than relying on a single technique, is an important step towards the custom design of battery materials based on results from advanced diagnostic techniques. “In the past, most advances in battery materials development arose from intuitive experimentation,” explained Balasubramanian. “We want to complement this intuitive Edisonian approach with a rigorous basic approach to tailoring new materials.”

The next step is to observe the structural changes that occur in these lithium-rich compounds as they are cycled through various voltage windows, which is critical for determining battery life and durability. “Tools and techniques like those available at the APS can provide us unique insights to develop structure-property correlations, which are very important to predict long-term battery performance,” Abraham said.

The work lays a solid foundation for the design and development of new compounds. “We want to be able to tailor these materials with desired properties for specific applications,” Balasubramanian said. “We need transformational materials with high capacities, high power, and stable crystal structures for the successful commercialization of lithium-ion batteries for a myriad of demanding applications.”

Smartphone Technology - Windows Phone 7 stores your location too

Microsoft has joined the location information party, admitting that Windows Phone 7 does store and track your location, like any other smartphone platform.

Microsoft has admitted that Windows Phone 7 Dell inspiron 9400 battery Dell gw240 battery , like Android and iOS, does track user locations if they turn their GPS on. However, just like its competitors, the platform maker does not store identifying information. Microsoft and apps can find out your location, but they do it anonymously. Like Apple, the company issued a FAQ blog post about the subject.

“When you allow an application or game to access your device’s location, the application or game will connect to Microsoft’s location services and request the approximate location of the device,” writes Microsoft. “The location service will respond by providing the application or game with the location coordinates of the user’s device (when available), which the application or game can then use to enrich the user experience.”

“To provide location services, Microsoft Dell vostro 1310 battery  assembles and maintains a database that records the location of certain mobile cell towers and Wi-Fi access points. These data points are used to calculate and provide an approximate location of the user’s device by comparing the Wi-Fi access points and cell towers that a user’s device can detect to the location database, which contains correlations of known Wi-Fi access points and cell towers to observed latitudes and longitudes.”

Basically, if you turn on your phone’s location services, computers somewhere will know your location. That’s how they work. What you may not know is that GPS isn’t always the best way to find your location. It can often take a few moments to connect to a GPS satellite and if you’re indoors or conditions aren’t perfect, a connection may not happen at all. To patch this problem, which is partly caused by the shoddy GPS chips in most phones, modern smartphones also triangulate your position using nearby Wi-Fi hotspots and cellphone towers. By pinging these locations, they can guesstimate your general whereabouts.

If you’re uncomfortable with your location being known, we recommend that you turn off location services on your smartphone, or better yet, turn off your smartphone when you’re someplace you don’t want others to know about. It doesn’t appear that Apple, Microsoft, or Google are doing anything malicious with the data, which they claim is anonymous, but if it concerns you, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Recycling – Batteries for the future

Batteries for the future post by batterylaptoppower.com

One of the most important decisions facing designers of plug-in electric or hybrid vehicles is related to battery choice. Now, researchers at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) have used a life cycle analysis to examine three vehicle battery types to determine which does the best job of powering the vehicle while causing the least amount of environmental impact during its production.

Their results, published in the latest edition of the scientific journal Environmental Science and Technology, show that on a per-storage basis, the nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery had the most environmental impact, followed by the nickel cobalt manganese lithium-ion  (NCM) and iron phosphate lithium-ion (LFP) batteries for all impacts considered, except ozone depletion potential. The researchers also found higher life cycle global warming emissions than have been previously reported.

The researchers, Guillaume Majeau-Bettez, a PhD candidate in NTNU’s Industrial Ecology Program; Troy R. Hawkins, a researcher in the programme; and Anders Hammer Str?mman, an associate professor in the program, conducted a life cycle analysis of the three battery types and looked at 11 different types of environmental impacts from their production. These impacts included everything from greenhouse gas emissions to freshwater ecotoxicity, freshwater eutrophication and human toxicity.

The researchers were surprised to find that except for ozone depletion potential, the NiMH battery performed significantly worse than the two Li-ion batteries for all impact categories. The researchers attributed this difference to the greater use phase efficiency of Li-ion relative to NiMH, and the fact that each kilogram of Li-ion battery Dell latitude d630 battery Acer as07b41 battery is expected to store between 2 to 3 times more energy than the other battery types over the course of its lifetime.

“The NCM and LFP batteries contain at least an order of magnitude less nickel and virtually no rare earth metals,” the researchers also observed. “Among Li-ion batteries, our analysis points to overall environmental benefits of LFP relative to NCM, which can be explained by a greater lifetime expectancy and the use of less environmentally intensive materials.”

For all three batteries, the energy requirements for their manufacture were a major cause of greenhouse gas emissions. One component of the analysis demonstrated the environmental significance of using polytetrafluoroethylene as dispersant/binder in the electrode paste. Its production was responsible for more than 97% of the ozone depletion potential of all three batteries, along with 14 -15% of the greenhouse gas production from the two Li-ion batteries, mostly due to the halogenated methane emissions. The final shipping and the production of the cell containers, module packaging, separator material, and electrolyte contribute relatively little to causing environmental damage, with collectively less than 10% of any impact category.

The researchers also point out the importance of the choice of the functional unit for the life cycle analysis. While the production of NiMH causes the least greenhouse gas emissions impact per kilogram, its lower energy density makes it score worst both relative to its nominal energy capacity and the researchers’ storage-based functional unit. Similarly, the greenhouse gas impacts of LFP and NCM production are roughly equal for a given mass or nominal energy capacity, but the greater life expectancy of LFP confers a net environmental advantage to this type of battery for a per-energy-delivered functional unit.

“A shift from NiMH to Li-ion may thus be viewed positively,” the researchers concluded. “Though associated with important uncertainties, our results point to a higher than expected level of environmental impacts for the production and use of traction batteries. This inventory and life cycle analysis provide a basis for further benchmarking and focused development policies for the industry.

iPhone, iPad can track user’s location

Apple new Technology post by batterylaptoppower.com

Apple Inc.’s iPhone and iPad are keeping very close track of where you’ve been.

Security researchers said they found a file hidden in the operating software of Apple’s devices that can contain tens of thousands of records of a user’s precise geographical location, each marked with a timestamp.

Those records create a highly detailed history of a user’s whereabouts over months or even years at a time.

The data is sitting in an unprotected file embedded in the phone and tablet computer, the researchers said Wednesday, allowing hackers who pick up a lost iPhone or iPad access to the location history with relative ease.

The discovery comes as High quality hp pavilion dv4 battery technology companies are coming under increasing scrutiny for the ways in which they collect, store and share personal information gleaned from consumers’ use of digital devices.

Apple, Google Inc. and Facebook Inc., three of the most popular consumer technology companies, have attracted intense scrutiny from regulators and privacy advocates.

Illustrating the data in dramatic, understandable form, security researchers Pete Warden and Alasdair Allan released a software program Wednesday that allows iPhone and iPad users to download and plot their location histories onto an interactive map, showing their trail over time.

The maps show clusters of colorful dots in hundreds or thousands of precise locations visited by the device’s user.

“I have no idea what Apple a1185 battery Acer as07b41 battery thinks it’s doing in collecting this,” said Christopher Soghoian, a cybersecurity researcher at the University of Indiana and formerly a Federal Communications Commission employee. “You’d think they would’ve learned the lesson Google learned, which is: Don’t surprise your users on privacy.”

Apple raised eyebrows last year when it added a phrase to its privacy policy disclosing that it would “collect, use and share precise location data, including the real-time geographic location of your Apple computer or device.” The company said that the data was anonymous and could not be used to identify the original user.

But Allan of Exeter University and Warden, a former Apple engineer, said the cache of location information on a user’s iPhone or iPad can be linked easily to the user and is not protected by any security.

Cellphone location data has long been collected by wireless providers to help route calls to mobile users. Law enforcement officials can get access to that data, but it generally requires a court order.

“Now this information is sitting in plain view, unprotected from the world,” Warden and Allen wrote in an online post on the O’Reilly Radar technology site. The data is “available to anyone who can get their hands on your phone or computer,” they said.

Apple did not return requests for comment.

Many Apple customers were excited about the maps, which aren’t as specific as the data used to plot them, and wanted to share their meanderings.

Randy Botti, a web designer in Hawaii, posted a map showing visits to many spots around the coast of Hawaii’s Big Island.

“Here’s my iPad location map,” Botti wrote on Twitter. “I showed mine, now show yours.”

A free mobile software - TuneIn Makes Good Use of Windows Phone 7 FM Radio

TuneIn, already available on most smartphone platforms, today launches as a free mobile application for Microsoft Windows Phone 7 handsets. The software streams Internet radio from more than 50,000 AM and FM radio stations over Wi-Fi or a mobile broadband connection. One key difference in the Windows Phone 7 version is that the application integrates with the handset’s internal FM radio to save battery gateway squ-412 battery
Dell inspiron 1000 battery  life or listen to local radio programs that could be blocked on the web.

TuneIn is now available on practically all mobile platforms: iOS, BlackBerry, Android, Palm, and even Samsung’s Bada operating system. But among those, Windows Phone 7 is the only smartphone platform that requires an FM radio tuner in handsets. The radio requirement is a “nice to have” feature in my opinion, although some likely couldn’t do without it, and the younger generation wonder how we ever lived before iTunes. It’s clever of TuneIn to leverage the lower-powered radio, so users can shift from Internet to local airwaves and listen longer. And the app can be used exclusively with the integrated FM radio without using up mobile broadband data.

Aside from the new hybrid listening feature specific to Microsoft smartphones, TuneIn offers several key features for all Hp pavilion dv9700 battery Dell latitude e6400 battery platforms. Search for an artist or song, for example, and the software returns all of the stations currently playing either. A handset’s GPS will find local stations — useful while traveling. Podcasts too are supported by the app, so you can carry around and listen to your favorite mobile technology show.

An app that uses the FM tuner of a smartphone isn’t going to set Windows Phone 7 handsets apart from the pack, or boost handset sales, by any means. However, I do wonder if the FM radio will make a comeback in future phones on other platforms. Internet radio is certainly ubiquitous these days, but as we begin to pay for the data that we use, thanks to tiered data plans, that good ol’ fashioned traditional radio could rise in value.

Top tips To Improve You Battetry life

Improve You Battery Life post by goodlaptopbattery.co.uk

Battery life is one of the most influential things regarding your mobility, but laptops with a longer battery life usually cost accordingly. What to do if you don’t have the money?

What makes a laptop mobile? The weight and volume that allow carrying it from one place to other of course, but most importantly – the fact that it doesn’t need a constant electrical supply and is not tied to the electricity network, but comes with its own battery. This is exactly the reason why battery time, or “battery life” are such an important factor influencing the true mobility you’re receiving.

Some laptops come with a guarantee (that they not sure they can uphold) for a significantly longer battery life, but most laptops these days offer a typical life of two to five hours. How long you’ll actually receive? That’s up to you.

What affects the battery time?

The laptop’s battery Dell vostro 1500 battery Dell d620 battery time is affected by a variety of factors, mostly having to do with the work load placed on the various components.

The most electricity consuming component in the computer is usually the screen. The bigger it is and the more its rear lighting is stronger, the more his electricity consumption increases and the battery life shortens. Other electricity consumers are the processor (CPU) and the graphic inserter (GPU), that when required to work, consume more electricity. These are usually followed by the hard drive and wireless communication.

The differences between the various laptops in terms of their battery time, mostly relate to these factors. For example computers that specifically designed to provide a longer battery life usually utilize LED screen which are economical and a poorer processor (LV/ULV) which is a little slower but its electricity consumption is significantly lower.

Integrated graphic accelerators consume less electricity that accelerators installed on a separate card (Descrete), when the latter offer better performance. The new Intel mobile platforms (Centrino 2) and AMD offer a combination between the two methods with the option to switch between them during the use according to priority – more performance or more battery time.

It’s important to know about batteries

The first thing you should do to ensure you receive as long as possible battery time, is to choose your computer wisely. All manufacturers publish data regarding the battery time on their websites, in the technical specification of each computer. This data should be taken with a limited guarantee and cross reference with independent data received from field tests technology journalists hold and are plentiful online.

Note that a large part of laptops can be purchased with a “regular” batter or a “strong” battery Replacement Acer aspire 5920 battery that can often provide almost double the work time, at a cost of a few extra dollars and a few more grams. If battery time is important to you, you’re better off purchasing the computer with the stronger batter. It is acceptable to distinguish between batteries according to the Cell number it includes; most computers can be acquired with 6 cells and 9 cell and some cases there are also 4, 8 and 12 cells. The method of calculation changes from one computer to the other, so there’s no point doing the arithmetic.

And by the way, if your mobile is a year or two years old or more and you feel the battery time is shortening – it is more than likely you’re right. The charging power of the battery decreases as time goes by and the number of charges increases.

    Using work settings

Most laptops from recent years, support various technologies to reduce the electricity consumption of various components, so the computer knows to adapt the action of the various components operation with requirements (for example, reducing the speed of the processors clock while writing a document in the word processor when its not fully necessary). Windows systems allow operating these technologies automatically and most manufacturers provide along with the computer a dedicated software tool to mange Discount Acer aspire 5520 battery power.

Usually, all you need to do is look for the battery icon in the corner of the screen, click and choose Power saver mode (If you don’t have such an icon, look inside the control panel, Power Options – Advanced and change the appropriate settings). If you’re not “stressed” you can choose the “Balanced” mode in which the OS balanced between the need for performance and battery life. When you’re connected to the electricity network you can choose the “High Performance” mode.

    Proper use of the screen

To reduce power consumption of the screen it is recommended that you first switch it to the lowest clarity level and then gradually increase it and let your eyes adjust. Stop at the lowest clarity level you can handle without straining your eyes.

Note that the optimal clarity level is also affected by environmental conditions. For example, if you’re at a well lit location it is recommended to look for shadow. The viewing angle of the screen is also very significant – if you adjust it at a slightly sharper angle you’ll need a higher clarity setting.

    Turning off and disconnecting plugins

If you find yourself on a flight or a long drive without an internet connection you won’t be able to surf so there’s no reason for you not to switch off the communication plug ins of the computer hp 530 battery Hp 530 adapter . Most new computers have a special switch that allows turning off their WiFi option and others have an appropriate keys combination (usually FN+F2 OR FN+F5, search documentation).

In the same way, it is recommended in case needed (meaning when you see the battery is running low), to disconnect any plug in that receives power through the USB interface, such as a Disk on Key, External driver or optical mouse. The optical driver should only be used when necessary.

    Appropriate use of software

Some applications deplete the battery quickly: viewing a movie in full screen mode, running a game, an application that requires intensive action by the disk such as virus scanning or defragmentation. Delay what you can, make sure you close every unnecessary software and when you finish using a certain program shut it down before moving on to the next.  If you’re right at the end of the batter and are not connected to the net you can also turn off your antivirus program.

What you can’t shut down or don’t want to give up, can be “minimized”. Viewing video on part of the screen instead of a full screen consumes less power. Power consumption while playing music is a function of volume control – so turn it down.

If you’re using software that performs background scans of the computer, such as Google Desktop Search or Copernic, turn it off because they work the hard disk overtime. It is also recommended to turn off Windows Index service that does the same. To do that, type in services.msc in the command line and press Enter to enter Windows services list. Search for Indexing Service (XP) or Windows High quality Dell wr050 battery Search (Vista) right click and choose stop.

If you’re not using Windows built in search tools, it is recommended to make the following change:  begin as previously explained and when you reach the appropriate service right click it choose Properties and change the setting from Automatic to Manual and confirm. This change will also enhance performance and save battery time.

A few other things that could help

Defragment the disk often. Of course while it is plugged in. the defragmentation will accelerate the hard drive and improve performance as well as reduce the range of the disks operation and thus prolonging battery life .

Install an additional memory. The appropriate memory volume (1GB or more for XP and at least 2GBfor Vista) reduce use of virtual memory and thus minimize use of the hard drive and prolong battery life.

Clean the battery connections. Every few months remove the battery and clean its metal contacts with an alcohol soaked cloth.

Don’t count on the StandBy mode. It uses less power but will still deplete the battery slowly. Execute a proper shut down.

20 essential apps for your new iPad

    http://www.goodlaptopbattery.co.uk/battery-blog/apple-ipad-2-reviews-20-essential-apps-for-your-new-ipad/

If you’ve got a new iPad 2, or you’re getting one today, you’ll be needing some apps to put on it. Here are some suggestions.

    World’s biggest battery

World’s biggest battery post by batterylaptoppower.com

Duke Energy Renewables plans to spend $44 million to install a 36-megawatt battery system at its Notrees Wind Project in Texas.

It will be the world’s largest power storage system for a wind farm once it is installed late next year, says Duke Renewables spokesman Greg Efthimiou. It’s also the one of the largest used for any kind of power storage.

Xtreme Power, a manufacturer of large-scale developer of digital power systems based in Kyle, Texas, will design, install and operate the battery for Duke , which is in the process of merging with Progress Energy of Raleigh. Both companies have customers in the Triad

Duke won a $22 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to install a large-scale battery at the 153-megawatt Notrees site. Duke matched the grant to fund the project.

The 36-megawatt capacity is massive for a storage battery. It exceeds, for instance, the capacity of Duke’s entire Happy Jack Wind Farm in Wyoming.

    Demonstration project

Efthimiou says the battery Dell studio 1555 battery Acer aspire 5920 battery can be used only to supply power for a short amount of time. But its capacity makes it sufficient to provide the equivalent of power to almost 24,000 homes for an hour during times of peak energy demand when the wind dies.

“In addition to supplying stored renewable energy, this battery storage system will be capable of providing other key grid services, including helping smooth out the frequency of electricity traveling throughout the power grid,” he says. “One of the key intents of this energy storage project is to test and demonstrate how that added flexibility can benefit renewable-power projects throughout the country.”

The Electric Power Research Institute will advise the project team and collect data to help assess the potential for use of such storage systems elsewhere. Results from the storage project at Duke Energy’s Notrees wind farm will be shared publicly through the DOE’s Smart Grid Information Clearinghouse.

Windows vs Android – Smartphone buying g

    http://www.goodlaptopbattery.co.uk/battery-blog/windows-vs-android-smartphone-buying-guide/

Google Android is now the fastest-growing mobile platform, but Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 is a compelling rival. Which kind of smartphone should you pick? We consider the pros and cons and help you choose the right smartphone for your needs.

New Windows Phone - What Windows Mango could mean for the mobile app market

On Wednesday at an event in Las Vegas, Microsoft (MSFT) previewed the latest version of its Windows Phone mobile operating system, dubbed Mango. It’s the company’s latest effort to draw more developers to create apps for its platform. The software finally includes multitasking capabilities long found on other mobile competitors, as well as an updated version of Internet Explorer 9 and an improved Marketplace search experience.

Key to the mobile app industry is the operating system’s ability to allow developers to build apps that use the phone’s hardware features, including the camera and the accelerometer. The company claims that developers will also have the opportunity to more deeply integrate their apps with the phone. As an added bonus, there will be access to the phone’s contacts and calendar, which allows data to be incorporated into various apps. Developers will be given an opportunity to test Mango’s features in May, prior to the operating system being rolled out on users’ phones beginning this fall.

However, just a few months is hardly enough time for developers to help Microsoft jump from a base of about 13,000 apps to reach the level of Apple’s (AAPL) iOS with more than 350,000 apps, or Google’s (GOOG) Android with more than 200,000 apps. Microsoft hp pavilion dv6 battery has taken a step in the right direction with plans to add apps such as Skype, Amazon, Angry Birds and Spotify to Windows Phone 7 when the new operating system update is introduced. Some consumers may be drawn in by such big names, but those wanting an endless selection of apps from which to choose are likely to stick with the iPhone or Android.

But Microsoft isn’t exactly a turtle in this race, as the web browsing experience on Mango is being touted as speedier than both the Android and iPhone 4. And Microsoft is using its Kinect knowledge to develop basic motion-sensing technology for the Windows Phone 7, which could be used to create augmented reality apps.
Nokia (NOK) partook in Microsoft’s display, but continues to remain vague about when the carrier will begin selling the Windows Phone 7, which Nokia plans to make its primary smartphone operating system. It would be wise for the mobile carrier to move faster than the new operating system’s speed to push Windows Phone 7 to the forefront of developers’ minds, and before consumers’ fingers tire from endless Angry Birding.

    BlackBerry PlayBook review: too soon

    Pros

    • Sleek and solid design

    • Crisp 7-inch display

    • Captures high-quality 1080p video

    • Powerful speakers

    Cons

    • Need BlackBerry phone to get native email, calendar apps

    • Buggy software

    • Lackluster third-party apps

    • No video chat option yet

    • Android Player coming later

Somewhere along the way, BlackBerry lost its cool. And RIM hopes the PlayBook can steal it back. The company’s 7-inch answer to the iPad 2 features a whole new operating system that’s tailor-made for multitasking and chock-full of nifty gestures. A zippy dual-core processor and dual cameras that capture full HD video make the PlayBook a pint-size powerhouse on paper. This tablet is also affordable. The Wi-Fi only version starts at $499 (for 16GB), and 4G versions of the tablet will start rolling out this summer. So how well do the software and hardware work together? How good are the apps? And do you really need a BlackBerry phone to get the most out of this slate? Our in-depth review has all the answers.

    WHAT WE LIKE

    Sleek and solid design

The BlackBerry PlayBook  hp 2230s battery dell d630 battery feels good in your hands, thanks to a soft-touch backside. RIM’s slate is a hair thinner than the original Samsung Galaxy Tab but is an ounce and a half heavier (14.9 vs 13.4 ounces). Still, you can easily slip the PlayBook in a purse or jacket pocket, something you can’t do with the iPad 2.

    Sharp display, boomin’ speakers

Sporting one of the better screens we’ve seen on a tablet, the 7-inch LCD on the PlayBook has a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. Colors really popped, text looked sharp, and viewing angles are wider than the muddier Motorola Xoom.

Don’t let the small speaker grilles on the front of the PlayBook fool you. This tablet produced booming audio when we streamed Florence + The Machine’s “Dog Days Are Over” with the Slacker app. At least for smaller rooms, you won’t need a speaker dock.

    Gesture-friendly interface

The home screen of the PlayBook Compaq nc6400 battery hp dv6000 battery life looks a lot like HP’s webOS, but we’re not complaining. The center of the home screen gets populated with thumbnail views of apps as they’re opened. You can then swipe through this carousel and tap on the app you want, or press the little X below the thumbnail to close it.  (You can also swipe up on an app to whisk it away).

<script type="text/javascript"></script><script type="text/javascript"></script>The front side of the PlayBook has an enlarged bezel that surrounds the 7-inch display, which is there for performing various gestures. For example, you can get back to the home screen at any time by swiping up from the bottom of the frame. You can also swipe sideways to switch between open apps. The software is even smart enough to automatically pause video playback.

    Wireless file sharing

When connected to your PC via USB, you can either drag and drop files to the PlayBook or use RIM’s BlackBerry Desktop Software. You can also wirelessly sync files by turning on the PlayBook’s Wi-Fi Sharing feature under options. We got this to work, but only after enabling the Network Sharing feature on our Windows laptop. Also keep in mind that the PlayBook doesn’t sync automatically over Wi-Fi (like doubleTwist for Android). You have to manually transfer files in this mode.

    Fast keyboard

As you might expect, the keyboard Dell inspiron 1520 battery dell vostro 1500 battery on the PlayBook is fast and accurate. We could really fly with our thumbs when using the device in portrait mode. We also like the reassuring clicking sound, whose volume you can adjust. You don’t get haptic feedback, but we can live without it.

    Multitasking power

With a 1-GHz dual-core processor from TI (the OMAP4430) and 1GB of RAM under the hood, the PlayBook certainly has the specs to stand toe-to-toe with the iPad 2 and other tablets. We streamed a 1080p video to a 32-inch TV while surfing the Web on the PlayBook at the same time without seeing any lag. Swiping from app to app was also fairly smooth, though the accelerometer took longer than we’d like to switch the display’s orientation when flipping the device around.

Web browser does Flash (even Hulu)

While the PlayBook’s browser lagged behind the iPad 2 when loading pages, the Web surfing experience is more robust because RIM’s slate supports tabs and Flash. Even Hulu works, at least for now. We first watched The Daily Show on Hulu, and playback looked smooth at full screen. However, Flash-heavy pages often mistook swipes for taps, which made navigation difficult.

    Sharp cameras

We don’t expect a lot out of tablet cameras, but the PlayBook captured some of the best-looking videos we’ve seen yet. Using the rear-facing camera (5-MP), we recorded a detailed and Dell inspiron b120 battery Dell studio 1555 battery stutter-free 1080p clip of New York City traffic. The footage looked crisp both on the PlayBook’s screen and on a 32-inch HDTV.

Still shots we took with the back camera looked fine, but the PlayBook was slow to fire, and the camera lacks a flash. In either mode photo or video mode, you can switch from the back to the front (3-megapixel) camera, which can also handle 1080p video. It’s too bad the PlayBook doesn’t feature video chat software yet, because it delivered a very bright picture.

<script type="text/javascript"></script><script type="text/javascript"></script>Music and book stores baked in

Although you’re pretty much on your own for premium video, RIM picks up the slack in the music department with a built-in music store powered by 7digital. The scrolling album art on the main page looks pretty slick, and it looks like most of the major artists are here, from Britney Spears to R.E.M.

RIM also bundles a Kobo app for buying and reading e-books, which has a clean interface that shows your downloads on a virtual book shelf. The store is easy to navigate as well, with a Top 50 list that’s front and center.

    WHAT WE DON’T LIKE

    Buggy software

Unfortunately, we found the PlayBook to be flaky, with some applications randomly closing (like the Acer aspire 5920 battery Acer aspire 5610 battery browser). More than a few times we had to reset the PlayBook because it froze up, and at one point it refused to connect to different Wi-Fi networks. We hope and assume the device will get more stable as software updates roll out.

Requires BlackBerry phone to get BlackBerry Mail

Imagine if you had to thether your iPhone to your iPad to use the email app. That sums up BlackBerry Bridge, which allows BlackBerry phone owners (OS 5.0 and up) to connect via Bluetooth to access BlackBerry email, calendar, contacts, tasks, memos, and BlackBerry Messenger. When your BlackBerry phone isn’t tethered to the tablet, all of these apps — and the data they contain — disappear. Security-minded IT types might appreciate this approach, but most consumers will be left scratching their heads.

The BlackBerry email app was also slow to load, which just reminded us that we were connecting over a phone. The good news is that you can always use web-based mail; the PlayBook comes with prominent shortcuts for Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, and AOL Mail. RIM promises to make email, calendar and contact apps  available this summer that always reside on the tablet as part of an over-the-air update, and we suspect many prospective PlayBook buyers will wait until then.

    Lackluster apps (for now)

RIM says that more than 3,000 apps have been submitted so far to BlackBerry App World, and there are some pretty heavy hitting developers and publishers backing the platform. We had a blast playing the bundled EA’s “Need for Speed Undercover,” using the PlayBook as a steering wheel to tear around city streets. We also like the included Documents to Go for viewing and editing Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. Other “apps,” however, are just shortcuts to Web pages, such as Twitter and Facebook. The third-party apps we tried fell flat. Take “iRok2,” a “Rock Band” clone that’s just a repackaged version of the browser-based game. The dead giveaway? The big “Press Space Bar to Pause During Game” message at the bottom of the screen.

    VERDICT

It’s not really a matter of too little too late with the BlackBerry PlayBook. If anything RIM’s first tablet feels rushed to market. The PlayBook has a well-designed interface and plenty of power under the hood for serious multitasking. The sharp screen, high-quality cameras, and loud speakers all impress as well. However, the software was buggy during testing, there’s no video chat option yet, and App World just doesn’t have a lot of compelling options right now. Combine these issues with the need to tether a BlackBerry phone to get native mail, calendar, and BlackBerry Messenger, and it’s hard to recommend this tablet  in its current form. Assuming RIM can work out the kinks and improve the app selection, we’ll warm up to the PlayBook more.

3D Angry Birds Vs ipad - Five Ways Nintendo Can Compete With Apple

When Nintendo launched its DS in 2004, the company faced stiff competition from Sony and its technologically superior PSP. That said, the extra processing power couldn't prevent the DS from dominating sales charts with a variety of innovative games that made excellent use of the handheld's strengths.
Fast-forward to 2011, and Nintendo must once again defeat Sony, this time with 3DS.
Before tackling the Next Generation Portable (NGP), though, Mario and Co. should first address Apple.
Whether Nintendo Compaq nc6000 battery Compaq nc6400 battery likes it or not, the hipsters from Cupertino have quickly emerged as key players in the handheld market, thanks to all in one devices like the iPhone and iPad, as well as the immensely popular App Store, where users can download high quality games on the cheap.
To prevent Apple from dominating the space, Nintendo should make a handful of changes to beat the company at its own game, starting with...
Recruit App Store publishers and developers
A 3D Angry Birds? Yes please.
Mario's huge, but so is Angry Birds, Cut the Rope and countless iOS titles. Having publishers like Electronic Arts, Sega and Namco Bandai on board is key to success, but Nintendo should reach out to the App Store's heavy hitters, doing whatever it takes to put those games on 3DS through the upcoming eShop.
Increase the number of games released per week
This week on DS, we had Slingo, and...uhh...Slingo.
Despite years of experience, Nintendo does a poor job filling its online stores with games on a weekly basis. At best, the Wii and DS will have three to four titles to choose from, and that's a generous estimate. That doesn't give players much of a choice, especially when the games are terrible.
Conversely, at least five games hit the App Store hp pavilion dv6 battery Dell vostro 1520 battery , and you can always count on a few gems. Nintendo has preached quality over quantity and failed to live up to that lofty goal. It's time to give consumers a bigger variety of games to choose from.
    Price these games accordingly
    Sorry, Shantae. You're too expensive.
Downloadable games, at least on the App Store, hover in the $0.99 to $2.99 range. Nintendo and third parties, meanwhile, continue to overcharge with the expectation that fans will fork over the cash. Bottom line, companies should bite the proverbial bullet and deliver high quality games at bargain prices. A simple looking DS platformer like Shantae: Risky's Revenge should not cost $12.00.
    Release free games
Hey Nintendo, we just purchased your $250 system. How about one free downloadable game?
More related news you maybe like :
Nintendo's amassed a war chest of cash from consumers, and it's time for the publisher give back in the form of some free games. The odds of this happening are probably slim to none, but it would boost the 3DS' appeal. We're not talking about the next Super Mario Bros. Simplistic yet entertaining games, like Birds & Beans, would be more ideal.
Create a Game Center inspired online hub
Check this out, Nintendo. It's cool.
Nintendo's decision to streamline the Friend Code process was a step in the right direction, but not enough. The company should expand on this with individual gamer profiles that list achievements won for each game as well as online leaderboards. You know, like Game Center (or the service it mimics, Xbox Live). It's time to connect Nintendo fans instead of forcing them to do all the work.
