Laptop Battey Review – Acer TravelMate Review:Abusiness companion with superior battery life

Today, the technology sector appears to be bulging with treats for all users who roam in a puzzled maze looking for the best gadget. From lifestyle apps and urbane smartphones to security systems for complete safety, manufacturers are well aware about how to tap the right nerves of various consumers.

Looks like Acer too processes its thoughts on the same level. The company has developed its TravelMate series, previously owned by Texas Instruments, for professional and business purposes. So when the TravelMate 8472T notebook hopped onto our review desk, we wisely put on our business suits to get a real hands-on of the device. Following your way now is a detailed analysis of this wanna-be ‘biz mate.’

The notebook came packed with a power adaptor, a Quick Setup instructions guide, an International Travelers warranty, a Quick Guide, one year limited warranty and a cleaning cloth. With an all-black matte finish, the device came across as strictly professional. Its scratch-resistant top lid housed the Acer logo and did its best to put away a lot of dust. When we opened the notebook, the lid appeared to be a bit fragile, while the device’s rims were somewhat sharp. Although the specs sheet read its weight as 2.4kg, the laptop felt considerably light with its 6-cell li-ion  Toshiba pa3534u-1bas battery .

Scrutinizing the exteriors, its left edge comes fitted with Kensington lock slot, Ethernet (RJ-45), VGA slot, USB 2.0 ports, mic-in and headphones/speaker line-out jack, and the Acer EasyPort connector. The right side, on the other hand, disclosed Modem (RJ-11) port, a DC-in jack, two USB 2.0 slots, and an optical drive with an optical disk access indicator and an emergency eject hole. Enlightened indicators took their place in the front for power, battery and HDD. These gauges are accompanied by a multi-in-1 card reader which can read SD, MMC, Memory Stick Pro and xD cards. The undersurface amongst the front accommodates left and right speakers for augmented acoustics.

Since the device is built for business users, it is spruced up with rugged functionalities like a very robust Intel Core i5-430M processor running at 2.26GHz, 3MB L3 cache. The 8472T notebook is embedded with Intel HD Graphics, 4GB of DDR3 memory, a 500GB HDD and the 1.3MP Acer Crystal Eye webcam which is located on the top of the display panel. The word ‘Acer’ is embroidered on the center below the 14” 16:9 HD LED LCD. Interestingly, the display decussates with the main body via flat hinges which help the screen to be moved behind, almost 180 degrees. All in all, it portrays a sturdy look for on-the-go usage.

The full-sized keyboard and laptop battery Apple a1185 battery trackpad are luxuriously domiciled on the main device and flaunt ample amount of wrist area which ensures comfortable typing and navigating. The typing expanse settles the power button on the top right which has to be slid for switching on the PC. What we liked about it was that the laptop was turned on within 30 seconds of using the power button. On the right of this button was a dual-intent steel button to indicate the wireless status of the notebook. The other one renders the Acer PowerSmart and Programmable key functions. Thanks to the matte scrub, whatever is displayed on its screen is anti-glare and reflective. This means that while working on the laptop, it skipped our own mirror glare and assured serious display in outdoor environment as well.

A personal notebook which doesn’t offer seamless wireless connectivity seems to sound pretty much useless. This one though, doesn’t fall in any such negative category. The device was quick in recognizing hotspots in the surrounding areas and rendered flawless Internet access. Even if connecting through a wired LAN connection, the Internet connectivity of the laptop seemed prompt and quick. It not only passed the connectivity test with flying colors for surfing via Wi-Fi, but the unit also performed really well when we wanted to share data over Bluetooth.

Moving over to the multimedia features, the audio quality of the device truly disheartened us. One more thing which we weren’t pleased with was the absence of an HDMI port. We were wondering that for a laptop of this immense competence, how Acer Acer as07b41 battery Asus a32-f3 battery could not pay attention to the entertainment features. Maybe, the company perceives business users to be of a very serious and extremely intelligent mind only.

A business notebook would be incomplete if it didn’t support videoconferencing and video calling. So talking about its webcam, it offers really basic features and wasn’t as fancy as the other functions. We experienced a distinct lag in processing images, but the laptop at least allowed us to alter the brightness, contrast, saturation and sharpness. It provides a wide resolution range from 320 x 240p to 1280 x 1024p, though picking the highest one with any setting still captured average camera content. To add to the inefficiency, it only permits 320 x 240p video resolution for movie recording where the quality was solely acceptable.

While using the inputs for examining the interface, we noticed that the company had improvised on the use of the Fn function key a bit too much. Nevertheless, it provided some stunning options like the Fn+F6 which when pressed, turns the display off in order to save power. Users can clasp the touchpad off too with a combination of the function key with the F7 button. For complete personalization and configuration of the touchpad, it comes with the Synaptics Pointing Device software. Its big trackpad is based with the left and right click buttons separately. The fingerprint sensor renders enhanced security option and Asus a32-f5 battery Acer aspire 5920 battery takes its throne between the two click buttons. The multi-touch touchpad responds intuitively to a range of gestures like pinch to zoom, two finger flicks and rotate by scrolling.

After almost spending a day with the Acer TravelMate 8472T, one thing was noticeable, that the device was barely even warm, leave aside the need to charge it again. It scores a point just for this. However, the machine is clearly not built for satiating your multimedia needs. So, professional gamers or music aficionados may not wish to zero-down on this one. On the contrary, the 32-bit Windows 7 Professional OS and an extended 8 hour battery gave us a real high. We utilized about 7 hours of battery sap with streaming of our favorite online videos with volume on, along with playing a high-definition movie in the background with volume off. Moreover, we also wrote this review simultaneously on the laptop. Guess it ranks an ace in battery life.

The cooling vents of the Acer Travelmate 8472T kept the device really cool during prolonged hours of usage. Serving almost all the needs of professional users, this laptop just misses entertainment facilities that are must-have even in an average notebook Acer aspire 6935g battery Toshiba pa3533u-1brs battery . We could effortlessly perform tasks in Microsoft Office and check our emails as well as browse the web without any glitches. Long business trips with continual journeys now seem to have a great companion to be improved with. You can purchase the Acer device for Rs. 37,999 plus taxes. For a machine with great battery juices, it receives a good 8 out of 10.
