The Korean electronics giant with samples of its next-generation iPhone and iPad

In the latest round of an ongoing patent and trademark battle, Samsung on Friday asked a federal judge to make Apple provide the Korean electronics giant with samples of its next-generation iPhone and iPad.

Samsung asked U.S. District Court Judge Koh to force Apple to give it "a sample of the final, commercial version of the next generation iPhone that Apple will release, whether that product will be known as the 'iPhone 4S,' 'iPhone 5,' or some other name," according to a motion filed in a California federal court Friday.
The Korean company also made a similar demand for "the next generation iPad that Apple will release, whether that product will be known as the 'iPad 3 Dell latitude e6400 battery dell xps m1330 battery ,' 'Third Generation iPad,' or some other name."

Assuming Koh agrees with Samsung, Apple would have until June 17 to hand over the iPhone and iPad samples.

Samsung's move followed Apple's motion earlier this month demanding that its rival show it several of its newest smartphones and tablets as part of the discovery phase of a lawsuit Apple filed against Samsung. Koh granted Apple's motion.

Samsung and Apple have been locked in a legal battle since mid-April, when Apple accused Samsung of "slavishly" copying the iPhone and iPad with several of its smartphones and its Galaxy Tab tablets. Apple claimed that Samsung's devices infringed 10 Apple patents and violated two trademarks.

Days later, Samsung counterattackedby filing lawsuits against Apple in Germany, Japan and Korea.

Apple, which is notoriously secretive about its products -- the company has not yet publicly revealed the successor to the iPhone 4, its name or when it will go on sale -- refused Samsung's outside-the-court request earlier this month for the next iPhone and iPad, according to Samsung's account of negotiations.

For her part, the judge also said she anticipated an exchange of products.

"At the close of the hearing the Court stated: 'And let me just say to counsel for Apple, I'm not going to be happy if you're not [sic] going to say what's good for the goose is not good for the gander. Okay?'" the motion read.

Samsung said it would abide by the same rules set by Koh for Apple, and that the next-generation iPhone and iPad would be examined by outside counsel only, and not shown to Samsung employees.

But with OEM partnerships blossoming, such as the ones with Citrix and Viewsonic, and a new influx of $7.6 million in Series A financing from a handful of VCs, BlueStack is positioned for success.

Apple is expected to face more competition Now

Last year, nearly 18 million tablets were shipped, with Apple's iPad accounting for nearly 83% of the market.  On the other hand, more than 346 million personal computers were shipped in 2010, with Hewlett Packard grabbing 18.5% of the market, and Dell, Inc. having 12.3%.

Research firm International Data Corporation said last month it expects that there will be 50 million tablet shipments in 2011, with Apple maintaining 70% to 80% of the tablet market.  Jefferies & Co., however, raised the estimates yesterday, projecting that 70 million tablets will be sold this year, with the total expected to increase to 246 million in three years.

Laptop (or notebook) computers are great. The small size and portability of laptop computers has turned them into the machine of choice for many people, me included. However, laptops have special needs that must be tended to if they are to remain trouble free. Here’s a list of things to do that can extend the life of your laptop computer.

Researchers in Scotland are hoping a new low-cost wastewater-treatment system for the developing world could also produce electricity.

A multi-disciplinary team led by Glasgow University has received £1m from the EPSRC to create a bacteria-based system for treating waste in areas on the outskirts of cities that have poor or no sewage facilities.
Scientists will bio-engineer bacteria to break down large amounts of solid waste using anaerobic digestion (without oxygen) in a reactor based on existing technology used by distilleries and pharmaceutical companies.

They hope to be able to capture the gas from the process to generate electricity. Because the system would not produce other waste products Acer as07b41 battery Acer aspire 5050 battery , they also hope it could improve wastewater treatment in the developed world.
An estimated one billion people worldwide live in peri-urban zones that only have open sewers and pit latrines rather than water-based sewage systems, principal investigator Dr Gavin Collins told The Engineer.

‘We can use anaerobic digestion where we can pump high volumes of high-solid wastewater in to achieve a much more efficient system and at the same time not pump energy into the system because it doesn’t need air.
‘The obvious alternatives are based on aerobic digestion like those used in developed countries. But these are unsustainable approaches where we don’t recoup any energy or useful products. Instead we put a lot of energy in and it costs a lot of money.

‘Conventional techniques also result in the production of huge volumes of excess sludge and new waste, which we also want to avoid.’

The project involves researchers from Brighton, Cranfield, Newcastle, Sheffield and Ulster universities and is expected to take four years to produce Acer aspire 5520 battery Apple a1185 battery a prototype system.

Existing anaerobic systems are typically used to treat industrial wastewater with a low solid content. These expanded granular sludge bed (EGSB) reactors rely on the bacteria staying in the tank but high-solid waste would push them out.

Part of the challenge will be designing a system that will be socially and culturally acceptable, as well as practical, for populations in the developing world, he added.

The team has yet to work out how it will capture the gas from the system and needs to determine on what scale it can be feasibly and acceptably done in developing countries. It also has the challenge of getting the waste to the digesters.

If it can successfully build a high-rate solid-waste system, there might also be an opportunity to employ the technology in the developed world to treat the sludge produced by aerobic digestion.

‘We could radically increase the rate at which we treat sewage sludge in the UK, which is growing every year as we roll out more wastewater-treatment plants and is the biggest problem the water industry has in this country,’ said Collins.

Apple's iPhone Sales Report - Weak Economy Helps Apple, Hurts Rivals

Apple's iPhone gained significant market share, despite most rivals stumbling due to the faltering economy, highlighting that consumers are still willing to buy the iconic device, even when times are tough.

Apple made Pages, its word processor, available for the iPad at launch last year. However, for simplicity alone, iA Writer is a better choice for writing. It essentially turns your iPad into a typewriter and lets you save your work to Dropbox (see above).

The playback quality is excellent and though it’s a shame that you can’t save programmes to watch offline, you can at least mark favourite shows so that you don’t miss new episodes.
